# WhatsApp templates

> Pre-approved WhatsApp message templates for initiating or re-engaging customer conversations.

WhatsApp Templates are **pre-approved message templates** that allow businesses to initiate or re-engage conversations with customers on WhatsApp.

Templates are required when:

* Sending a message to a customer for the first time.
* Restarting a conversation **more than 24 hours** after the customer's last message.

  If a customer has messaged your business within the last 24 hours, you can continue the conversation using regular session messages without using a template.
