# Template categories

> Marketing, Utility, and Authentication WhatsApp template categories and their supported content.

WhatsApp templates are grouped into three categories based on their intended purpose.

      If a Utility template contains promotional or marketing content, WhatsApp will classify the entire template as a **Marketing** template.
